"The Story of the Weeping Camel" is an anomaly.
It is to the credit of the two tyro filmmakers, who also carefully scripted and lovingly photographed this film, that it has pulled it off without once losing credibility, verisimilitude and that documentary feeling despite the incredulous nature of the tale.
It is the tale of a baby camel named Botok, who comes into this world and at once discovers a world of total reality, of lovelessness, cold, hunger, parental neglect, on the harsh desert sand. The viewer instantly recognizes the archetype: the dromedary version of the Ugly Duckling.
