Oleg (OH-leg) Common clues: Jackie’s fashion designer; Designer Cassini; Oleg Cassini was born in Paris in 1913. His given name was Oleg Cassini Loiewski. He was raised in Italy and came to the United States in 1936.
Cassini studied in Florence, apprenticed for Patou in Paris, then opened his own boutique in Rome. In the 1940s he emerged on the American fashion scene designing clothes for many movie stars, including his wife, Gene Tierney. In the 1960s he became the official designer for Jackie Kennedy. He has numerous design accomplishments to his credit – the sheath, the A-line, the little white collar dress, the turtleneck look for men, and the Nehru jacket.
